Let me offer another encouraging message about the adolescent years, which can be summarized in three words: normality will return. By that I mean that you're about to go into a hectic, topsy-turvy world which will make new demands and will confront you with many new challenges: (Remember that I said you may even feel once in a while like you're hanging by your heels?) When these stressful moments arrive ... when you ask a girl for a date and she turns you down, when you don't get invited to the party being given for the popular people, when your parents seem to hassle you over everything you do, when you wonder if God is really there and if he genuinely cares ... in those moments when you're tempted to give up, please remember my words: 'Normality will return.' Just as I was able to predict many of the adolescent experiences, which came your way, I can also predict with certainty that this stressful time of life will pass. In some ways, adolescence is like a tunnel that has a known beginning and end. As long as you stay on the road and keep your car moving forward, you can expect to emerge at the other end. Likewise, the anxieties and struggles you have experienced will soon disappear, and a new set of adult pressures will take their place.
